Shame, Anger, Fear: Spanish Elder Fraud Victims Cry Out. Can Your Bank Protect Them?
Elder fraud can cause serious financial harm to victims. In fact, new research from Feedzai based on responses from over 500 Spaniards aged 65 and older revealed that 15% lost over €10,000.
But the damage is not just financial. These scams also take a significant emotional toll. Half of scam victims felt angry, while another 27% felt afraid. Nearly two-thirds of respondents sought mental health services as a result.
Among the report’s exclusive findings:
- 50% said their bank was slow to respond to their situation
- 36% of respondents were first contacted by email; another 24% were contacted by phone
- 27% of elder fraud scams are investment scams
